Looking back over this past year, 2017 was year of discovery for our new cooperative. We opened as a group of like-minded artists on April 20th, 2017, with a preview pop-up show, and then went on to open our doors officially in May 2017. Between May and December, we spent our time learning how to run an art gallery, develop bylaws and operational policies, and getting to know each other. In late December we became legally recognized by the Texas Secretary of State as the first artist cooperative in San Marcos, Texas, operating under the Texas Cooperative Statute. We were guided through that process by an amazing legal expert of cooperative formations, Mrs. Kristin Scheel. I feel like since 2016 I've witnessed a significant welling-up or art & artistic interest and expression in this community. Our downtown art activities have increased, and art events in general are more well-attended than I ever remember. I have been inspired by our participation in this emerging creative culture, and invigorated by the community in general. I look forward to a new year, and all the opportunities and discoveries ahead, and I also look forward to many new friends and artistic ideas--perhaps it may be with you! Cheers and may your 2018 be what you wish.
